About Brian Milliken

I have been given the privilege, as a therapist, to connect and explore life with others. I have always felt inspired to help people follow their life adventure. I truly believe that the crises in my life have given me the opportunity and insight to be able to assist others during difficult times. I am here to give and gain valuable insight, over a period of time, in respect to our journey in this life.

I enjoy seeing the big picture and our relational responsibility in regards to it. I believe that we should really listen to life and what it has in store for us. I believe that we should follow our passions by taking calculated risks along the way. I think it is important to have connections with others and to appreciate our learning moments together. I am a deep thinking person that appreciates life stories and metaphors.

My hobbies include walking, hiking, biking, playing disc golf, and spending quality time with my family.

Individual Counseling

I specialize in working with people that have a wide range of issues including: depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and anger management. My focus in therapy isn't just the person - even if only a single person is in session - it is the set of behavioral patterns, contexts and relationships in which the person is imbedded.

I believe that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. Therefore, I assist people in the exploration of doing something different in order for them to find a better life direction.

Marriage & Family

I specialize in working with troubled relationships, and assist people to navigate through difficult relationship issues. I commonly see people dealing with issues of infidelity, financial struggles, communication breakdowns, conflict and other relationship issues. I work with couples to develop their skills in order to be able to handle some of the most difficult situations in a relationship.

Together, we work through the stresses facing the relationship and utilize the difficulties as a doorway to a stronger, deeper connection. My expertise is to create a partnership with clients in order to help find their unique strengths and learn skills that give them a greater chance for a more rewarding relationship with their loved one.

The Process

I consider myself an expert conversationalist. That means I utilize therapeutic conversation in sessions with clients. I have been trained to be able to listen effectively, ask appropriate questions, and provide valuable feedback in a counseling session. I will approach each therapeutic conversation with the highest ethical standards.
